The purpose of this course is to promote and reinforce multilingualism by introducing a second modern language to children primarily of the Congolese Community of Chicago age 4 to 17 (and subsequently, to children in the surrounding neighborhood) and to emphasize the active use of the French language. This course will help children develop the fundamental skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the French language. Class sessions will be held during the summer break, on a weekly basis at the specified time and location below. ALL COURSES ARE TAUGHT IN FRENCH UNLESS OTHERWISE INDICATED.   2ND YEAR STUDENTS & UP: This course will continue the development of the skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing, with increased emphasis on the practice of reading and writing. The purpose of this course will be to bring children to a point where they can use French for communication, both oral and written. As they advance in the program, children will be able to read materials, write short papers in French as well as communicate with a native speaker. FREQUENCY AND DURATION: Every Saturday from June to August for 10 Weeks on a yearly basis.   TARGET AUDIENCE: This class is open to kids ages 4 to 17 years old. Anyone with the desire to introduce the French language to their children is welcome to apply (priority will be given to members of the Congolese community of Chicago).
